The tool is made out of wood and is fairly simple to build with only a basic woodworking knowledge. Here we will illustrate and explain the process of building such a tool.

As summer rolls around the corner, its important for thousands of families to make sure their vacation to Disney World goes off without a hitch. Junction City Mining helps make sure the road to their destination is smooth, supplying road building materials such as asphalt and concrete to construction companies throughout Florida and Georgia. They are one of the largest quarries in the state of Georgia, and they have recently decided to incorporate Buntings PCB1206-EL Permanent Crossbelt Separator into their operations.

Junction City Mining required a truly massive structure to handle the mineral materials they work with, and Bunting engineers presented them with a custom-designed Permanent Crossbelt Separator equipped with a massive 36 conveyor. It boasts 11 burden depth, extracting 15 to 25 pounds of tramp metal at a time. The conveyor processes 4 to 500 tons of granite per hour, separating out tramp metal consisting of wear parts, bolts, and other scrap material that would detract from Junction City Minings high standard of quality if it were to remain in their product.

Its pulling blasting cap and all the dimensional tramp we were expecting, said Josh Conrad, Mine Engineer and Superintendent of Junction City Mining. The company is very pleased with the performance of the Permanent Crossbelt Separator and is interested in purchasing more magnetic equipment from Bunting in the future. @allenJo - I do believe they use these systems in water treatment systems. I dont know the mechanisms used but it is used from what Ive heard. Water should give up its magnetic particles quite easily, I would think, since the metals are just floating about like flotsam and jetsam in the ocean.

The uses described in the article suggest scenarios where the metals are rather loosely fitting, so I think the cleanup job would be thorough. What I wonder about is if this process can be adapted to water treatment? Since magnetic separation systems can be used to sift through fluids, could they purify water as well? That seems to be an obvious application. Where I live the tap water has a lot of metals and so we generally dont drink it. I already have three metal fillings; I dont need more metal in my body.

I see two things here that are necessary for magnetic separation to work well. First, the metals must be easily dislodged from whatever material or goop they happen to be sitting in. Otherwise, theyll just remain stuck, and the separation will be less than effective in pulling out all the metals. Second, the magnetic drum separator itself must be sufficiently strong. I think thats obvious, and the second point is related to the first. If the separating device is not strong it wont dislodge the metals; but there may be situations where the device is strong, but the metals are just stuck and wont budge.

Magnetic liquid traps are an essential piece of equipment for ensuring metal contaminants are separated from the liquid product flowing through the greater system. Under normal circumstances, the 316L stainless steel that standard liquid traps are made of is highly resistant to corrosion. However, when put under extreme stress from handling acidic foods and enduring rigorous cleaning procedures, intergranular cracks can occur in the material. To answer this problem, Bunting has engineered the new CR-MLT to be used specifically in processing acidic foods, such as tomatoes and citrus. The CR-MLT is manufactured from a single piece of corrosive-resistant material comprised of Buntings newly developed superalloy. This material has a much higher resistance to chloride pitting, crevice cracking, and stress cracking corrosion. It resists not only acid corrosion from food, but also endures the strong chemicals and rigorous water pressure blasts associated with washdown cleaning procedures in food processing environments.

In addition to the corrosion-resistant material, the CR-MLT offers several other desirable features. It has a high-pressure rating, which allows it to handle a higher volume of product at a faster rate. The 2 diameter magnetic load is thicker than the normal 1 diameter cartridge, making it last longer in the field. The design of this unit also allows for larger suspended solids to pass through the body. Cleaning the CR-MLT is simple. The operator pulls out the cartridge, which is wiped clean by an internal gasket. Because it is made from a single piece of stainless steel, there are no welds or crevices to corrode.

The CR-MLT utilizes 45SH magnets (temperature-compensated, high-intensity, neodymium magnets) for superior capture of metal contaminants. It meets food industry standards with its weld finishes, metal-detectable gaskets, and 10,000 gauss rating. Materials that were once challenging to process, such as tomato paste, ketchup and vinegar-based products, as well as high-temperature chloride-based cleaning agents, can now be handled with ease.

Single-plate magnet and dual-plate magnet liquid traps effectively remove ferrous particles from viscous and fibrous liquids, as well as from liquids containing larger suspended solids. These traps are designed to direct contaminants against a magnetic plate and into a deep magnetic field where they are captured and protected from the wiping action of the liquid flow.
