The lead ore can be upgraded by different methods and lead beneficiation equipments according to different types of ores, but generally speaking, lead gravity separation, lead floatation separation, or combination of gravity separation and floatation separation can be involved in the lead processing line to get high grade lead concentrate.
Gravity separation works to separate the lead ore on basic of different specific densities between lead concentrate and the gangue. Here the specific gravity of lead(galena) is 11.34 while that of gangue is 2-3.3, and the big difference of specific gravity makes gravity separation a great method to get the lead concentrate with good beneficiation efficiency. For lead ore of coarse and middle embedded size, simple crushing or rod milling can help to realize the dissociation of the lead granules from its attached gangue while lead of fine embedded size will need ball milling to liberate the lead grain from the gangue. Then the dissociated lead ore can go for lead gravity separator for further separation to get the final lead concentrate.
The crushed lead ore will be conveyed to rod mill through hopper and feeder for further dissociation to break the intergrowth. Then the milled lead ore will be put into the lead jigging machine to gain final lead concentrate and tailings.
The lead gravity separation machine is usually for galena lead ore of coarse embedded size with its great beneficiation efficiency. As kind of easiest galena ore dressing solution, it is easy to operate, maintain with its smallest plant investment.
Lead floatation separation works of floatability difference of different materials with ite great beneficiation indication. The floatability of galena, esp. the fine inlay galena is very great, so floatation separation is the ideal beneficiation way to get lead concentrate from fine embedded lead ore.
The crushed lead ore will be conveyed to the vibration screen to get ore of 0-5mm and +5mm. The +5mm ores will go back to the crusher fur secondary crushing. Then the ore of -5mm under screen will be put into system of ball mill and spiral classifier for milling and classifying. The ore after classification will be separated by floatation separation after agitating to get the final lead concentrate.
For micro fine embedded galena, floatation separation can be used to enrich the lead ore while for coarse and fine inlay lead ore, gravity separation can be great to get qualified galena concentrate with its high recovery and good efficiency. Of course, floatation separation can also work well when it comes to coarse granule inlay lead ore, but comparing with gravity separation, the floatation needs more plant investment and operation cost.
Actually, for coarse embedded lead ore, direct jigging gravity separation after crushing can help to gain ideal concentration efficiency. The specific gravity difference between the galena grains and gangue is big and gravity separation is enough to extract the galena crystals. For some galena mine with clear inlay big size, the recovery rate, beneficiation efficiency of gravity separation is much better than that of floatation separation while operation cost and plant investment of gravity separation is much lower than that of floatation separation. So gravity separation has been becoming the main beneficiation method for galena ore.

Treatment of oxidized lead ores (Cerussite) has long been recognized as a difficult process often resulting in low grade concentrates and low recoveries. Surface oxidation on galena ores has resulted in high tailings losses. The difficulty in treating oxidized lead ores by gravity methods is due to the softness of the oxidized lead minerals. During normal crushing and grinding processes, the soft oxidized lead minerals are overground, resulting in fines which do not respond well to gravity concentration or flotation.
The crushing section for this 50 ton mill consists of a 24 wide x 10 long ore feeder, agrizzly ahead of the jaw crusher and a 9 x 16 Type H Jaw Crusher. The length of the feeder is such that an operator can pick either high grade or waste material from the belt prior to crushing. The use of a grizzly reduces the load ahead of the jaw crusher. Grinding Section. The fine ore bin has been eliminated in this flowsheet since its advantage has been offset by additional oxidation of the lead mineralswhile the fine ore is stored in an ore bin. Therefore the crusher discharge goes immediately to the ball mill where overgrinding is kept to a minimum in the peripheral discharge Ball Mill. The material quickly passes through the ball mill onto a 3 x 6 Dillon Vibrating Screen which has a 10 mesh to 16 mesh opening. The mesh opening of course can be made coarser or finer depending upon the requirements of the particular ore. The plus 10 mesh material from the vibrating screen, is pumped with a 2 Vertical Centrifugal Sand Pump to a dewatering cone classifier. The overflow from the dewatering cone classifier is directed to the Dillon Vibrating Screen while the undersize returns to the ball mill feed. Sufficient water is added with the crusher discharge and classifier sands to maintain the correct density in the ball mill during grinding.
The minus 10 mesh vibrating screen undersize flows to a 12 x 18 Duplex Mineral Jig which recovers a high grade lead concentrate. The jig tailing passes into a 6 Cell No. 15 Sub-A Flotation Machine with 4 cells as roughers and 2 cells as cleaners. Sulphidizer, sodium bicarbonate and a frother are used to condition the pulp in the first rougher cell. This reagent combination produces hydrogen sulphide which is most active as initially produced. The sulphidized minerals are then subjected to flotation in the 4 rougher cells of the Sub-A Machine and the concentrate from the 4 roughers is returned by gravity to the 2 cleaner cells, producing a high grade, clean lead concentrate.
Sodium bicarbonate is used with the Sulphidizer to form hydrogen sulphide. The hydrogen sulphide is most active when initially produced and the Sub-A Flotation Machine takes advantage of this condition by agitating and mixing the reagents with the pulp and immediately carrying the sulphidized lead to the surface for froth removal.
Flotation of oxidized lead mineral fines normally results in excess reagent consumption and an undesirable colloidal condition which adversely affects the recovery of the lead minerals into the desired froth concentrate. Certain oxidized ores can be easily sulphidized with Sulphidizer and they then tend to respond well to flotation with promoters such asreagents 404, 425, or xanthate and a frother.
The discharge from the Sub-A Flotation Machine passes to a 6S Wilfley Pilot Table where an additional concentrate is removed. A middling is also taken from the table and returned to the grinding circuit. The tailings are discarded to waste. The pilot table gives the operator a visual indication of the results being obtained in the jig and flotation sections.
The gravity and flotation concentrates are thickened in a 20 x 10 Thickener prior to filtration. The thickener not only prepares the filter feed but also provides a storage for concentrates should it be necessary to repair the filter. In this way, the rest of the mill can be kept in continuous operation even though the filter is shut-down. The thickener rakes would of course be raised as required and the thickener underflow would be returnedto the thickener feed. A 2 Adjustable Stroke Diaphragm Pump or a 2 low head Diaphragm Pump removes the thickener underflow to a 4 3-Disc Filter mounted over the concentrate bin.
In the concentration of oxide lead ores, it is best to remove as much of the coarse free mineral as possible by gravity methods, and in this way improve flotation conditions by avoiding sliming of the mineral. The Sub-A Flotation Machine is designed to handle a coarse product and is therefore ideal for flotation of the oxide minerals at a coarse mesh. Simplified flowsheets and corresponding reduction in middling products are a necessity when handling oxide lead ore.

Zinc is recovered from a number of different zinc minerals. The most significant of these is sphalerite. Other minerals, such as smithsonite (ZnCO3, zinc carbonate), and zincite (ZnO, zinc oxide) are also zinc ores.
Zinc is also recycled from scrap.
In the U.S., six lead mines in Missouri, plus lead-producing mines in Alaska and Idaho, accounted for all domestic mine production. Significant amounts of lead are recovered as a by-product or co-product from zinc mines, and silver-copper deposits. Primary refined lead was produced at one smelter-refinery in Missouri. Of the plants that produced secondary lead at year end 2013, 12 had capacities of 30,000 tons per year of refined lead or greater and accounted for more than 95% of secondary production.
According to the degree of oxidation, lead-zinc ore divide into lead-zinc sulfide mine (oxidation rate <10%), lead-zinc oxide ore (oxidation rate >75%) and mixed lead-zinc ore (oxidation rate is 10%~75%) ).
1 Lead-zinc sulfide ore
1. Beneficiation process of lead-zinc sulfide ore:
The main constituent minerals of lead sulphide ore are galena and sphalerite, all of which are primary ore. Galena has good floatability. In most lead-zinc mines, zinc is higher than lead. Most of the lead-zinc sulfide mine uses preferential flotation technology, floating lead and zinc-suppressing, which is often reasonable both technically and economically.
2 Lead-zinc oxide ore
In the lead-zinc oxide ore, lead is mainly present in the state of leucite and lead bismuth, and zinc is mostly present in the state of smithsonite and willemite. Oxidized ore is gradually formed by the action of long-term weathering and groundwater containing carbonate. Regarding the flotation of lead-zinc ore, the lead oxide ore is generally applied by the flotation of xanthate, and the zinc oxide ore is generally applied by the method of flotation of ammonium sulfide.
Jaw Crusher, Cone Crusher: crush ore to a smaller size, make the target minerals and gangue minerals dissociated.
Vibrating screen: The mixture material is divided into different grades according to the particle size, and the qualified particle size products are sorted to avoid excessive pulverization of the ore and improve the productivity of the crusher.

Hydrocyclone: Distribute qualified products in time to avoid over-grinding, and at the same time, separate unqualified coarse sand and return to grinding.
Flotation machine: The slurry is aerated and agitated, so that the ore particles whose surface has been subjected to the collector are attached to the bubbles, scraped off with a scraper to obtain a concentrate.
Thickener: The process of precipitating and concentrating the slurry to separate the thinner slurry from the clarified liquid and the slurry.
Filter: Remove most of the capillary water from the material.
